The Practical Training Academy Ltd/Gte (TPTA) is pleased to announce a strategic collaboration with the NLNG Legal Learning Academy and several prominent international law firms and legal practitioners to deliver specialised training programmes for Nigerian lawyers across various emerging areas of legal practice.

The inaugural training will focus on project finance law and will be delivered over the course of 2026. The programme is available free of charge to all Nigerian lawyers and carries Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.
This collaboration brings together TPTA and the NLNG Legal Learning Academy (NLLA), a specialized legal training institution established by Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) to provide comprehensive legal education for its staff and the broader Nigerian legal community. The NLLA has consistently demonstrated its commitment to capacity building and has been instrumental in facilitating high-quality training programmes for Nigerian lawyers over the years, focusing on areas of law critical to the energy sector and commercial practice.
The partnership leverages the NLLA’s established expertise in legal education and TPTA’s innovative approach to practical legal training, along with the support of notable international law firms and experienced legal practitioners.
The first module of the Project Finance training series will commence on Thursday, 12th March 2026, marking the beginning of a comprehensive curriculum designed to enhance practitioners’ expertise in this specialised field.
The Project Finance Law training programme encompasses ten detailed modules covering the full spectrum of project finance practice:
1. Introduction to Project Finance – Overview of participants and their motivations, classic project structures, DFIs/ECAs/lenders, and bankability considerations
2. Overview of Project Finance Documentation – Comprehensive examination of project, equity, authority, offtake, insurance, hedging, financing documents, funding sources, security, and key due diligence areas
3. Project Finance Credit Agreements – Facility structures, pricing and margin protection, drawdown procedures, repayment mechanisms, lender protections, representations, warranties, events of default, and boilerplate provisions
4. Project Finance Covenants – The role of covenants, information requirements, financial covenant calculations, distinctions between greenfield and brownfield projects, event of default triggers, and covenant roles in loan recovery
5. Project Finance Intercreditor Agreements – Purpose and parties to intercreditor agreements, LMA-style ICA walkthroughs, decision-making and voting mechanics (including ECAs), and hedging arrangements
6. Project Documents Overview – Direct agreements, construction arrangements, O&M contracts, and PPAs
7. Project Finance Security Documents – The purpose of security in project finance, different types of security interests, and typical English law project finance security packages
8. Working with Export Credit Agencies (ECAs) – Understanding ECAs, advantages of ECA involvement, OECD Arrangement/Consensus rules, key considerations, types of ECA financing support, intercreditor issues, and ECA-related documentation
9. Green and Sustainable Financing – Overview of green, social, and sustainability-linked financial products, plus regulatory and other considerations
10. Bankability: Identifying and Allocating Risks in Project Finance – A comprehensive overview of bankability and risk-sharing in the project finance context
This collaboration builds on TPTA’s track record of delivering high-quality legal training programmes. Most recently, TPTA successfully delivered a five-day bespoke training to 143 staff members of the Cross River State Ministry of Justice in December 2025, which was highly commended by participants and featured distinguished faculty from the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
The training is free of charge for all Nigerian lawyers and has been accredited for CPD points, making it an invaluable opportunity for legal practitioners seeking to develop expertise in project finance law or enhance their existing knowledge in this specialised area.
The programme will be delivered by experienced practitioners from leading international law firms and notable legal experts with extensive project finance expertise, ensuring participants receive world-class instruction grounded in both theoretical principles and practical application.
