A knight of the Catholic Church, identified as Sir James Louise, also known as Ebube Anaedo, has renounced Christianity after the church failed to acknowledge the efforts of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in building the Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral.

The very mighty and colourful edifice of the cathedral was on Tuesday inaugurated for use, an event that attracted many dignitaries.

The edifice was initially started by the late senator, who volunteered to build the cathedral for the church and had worked on the project to about 85 percent completion before a new bishop, Dr Jonas-Benson Okoye, was posted to Nnewi in 2022 and reportedly ordered Ubah to hands off the cathedral.

"I’m Done With Christianity" — Knight Protests Non-Recognition Of Ifeanyi Ubah At Cathedral Inauguration

Our correspondent gathered that the order caused a rift between the bishop and the senator, as many insisted that the credit for the construction of the cathedral should not be taken from him after he had invested heavily in the project.

However, during the inauguration of the cathedral on Wednesday, James Louise protested, saying it was unfair that Ifeanyi Ubah was not acknowledged, either in the brochure or orally, as a contributor.

Louise, in a video circulating online, broke down and cried after the mass, lamenting that despite the efforts of the late senator, his name was not mentioned among contributors.

The distraught man, who removed his shoes and cap which constitute his knighthood regalia, said: “This is my last day as a Christian. I’m done. This is awful.

“How could anyone believe that this cathedral, which Ifeanyi Ubah slaved to build, could be inaugurated without a mention of his name. This is bad. I’m done with Christianity. This is my last day as a Christian.”

The video has sparked reactions on social media, with many condemning the Catholic Church for failing to acknowledge the senator. As of the time of filing this report, the Nnewi Catholic Diocese had yet to offer any explanation.
