The Ogun State Government has expressed deep condolences to the families, friends, and associates of the victims of a tragic road accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, who narrowly escaped death on Monday.

The fatal crash occurred along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near the Makun axis of the state, claiming the lives of two individuals. Joshua was reportedly travelling from Lagos to Sagamu with three others when the incident happened.

According to preliminary findings, the deceased were two male foreign nationals who died instantly at the scene. Their bodies have been deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu. Joshua and the driver of the vehicle were rescued by security operatives attached to his convoy and rushed to a hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

The state government stated that the sport utility vehicle carrying the occupants collided with a stationary truck parked along the expressway. While the damaged vehicle has been evacuated to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Division office, arrangements are ongoing to tow the truck to the same location to aid a full investigation.

Describing the incident as painful and deeply unfortunate, the government lamented the loss of lives and noted that others involved sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving medical care.

Motorists were advised to exercise caution and strictly obey traffic regulations, particularly during the festive season when traffic volume is high. Road safety officials and other security agencies were also urged to intensify patrols and enforcement across the state to safeguard lives and property.

The Ogun State Government extended its sympathies to the bereaved families, praying for the repose of the departed souls and the speedy recovery of the injured.

Reports indicate that conditioning coach Sina Evovle and his close friend Latz Adem, a long-time team member and fitness partner of Anthony Joshua, were also in the car at the time of the accident. While the Ogun State Government did not officially mention their names, social media posts at the airport confirmed that both were travelling with Joshua. They had arrived in Nigeria just seven hours prior to the incident.
