— Sunday Jackson Overpowered Attackers On His Farm, Led To Death Of Ardo Bawuro

Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa state, has pardoned Sunday Jackson, a farmer sentenced to death for killing a man said to have attacked him on his farm.

This was contained in a statement issued by Humwashi Wonosikou, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, and made available to newsmen.

Jackson was sentenced to death after he fought back and overpowered his attackers, which led to the death of one Ardo Bawuro in an attempt to defend himself.

According to the statement, the farmer was among three inmates granted a state pardon by the governor, while the sentences of five others were fully remitted as part of activities marking Christmas and the New Year.

Also pardoned were Joseph Eugene and Maxwell Ibrahim, who are being held at medium-security custodial centres in Yola and Kaduna, respectively.

While those who have their sentences remitted were Joshua James Audo, Adamu Ibrahim, Mohammed Abubakar, Ibrahim Usman, and Saidu Abubakar, serving sentences in Numan and Jada custodial centres.

The statement noted that the governor was exercising his constitutional prerogative of mercy following recommendations by the Adamawa state advisory council on the prerogative of mercy.
