The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a newlywed woman accused of fatally stabbing her husband just three days after their wedding in Jibia Local Government Area.

DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the Command’s spokesperson, said the groom was found in a pool of blood at his residence in Tashar Buja community on Sunday, November 23, 2025, and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

“On November 23, at about 1:30pm, a report was received at the Jibia Division that Abdullahi (not his real name), a newly wedded groom, was found motionless in a pool of blood in his residence situated in Tashar Buja quarters, Jibia LGA, Katsina State. Detectives were immediately deployed, and the victim was found with a deep cut to his neck. He was rushed to the hospital but confirmed dead on arrival,” Aliyu stated.

The suspect, identified as Zainab Muhammad, the wife of the deceased, is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

According to residents, the groom, Abubakar Abdulkarim, popularly known as Dan Gaske, had married Muhammad on Thursday, and the alleged attack occurred the following Sunday. Community members claimed the bride stabbed the victim while he was asleep before visiting a neighbour’s house, prompting suspicion and the discovery of the deceased by local women.

Family members of the deceased dismissed claims that the marriage was forced, noting that the couple reportedly maintained a cordial relationship prior to the wedding.

Commissioner of Police in Katsina, CP Bello Shehu, assured residents that the police would conduct a thorough investigation and urged anyone with information to come forward to assist authorities.
