The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), under the leadership of President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has announced the creation of eight new branches of the Association following approval by the National Executive Council (NEC) at its meeting held on November 20, 2025, in Benin City, Edo State.

The approval marks one of the most significant structural expansions in recent years and reflects the administration’s commitment to decentralization, professional accessibility, and improved member engagement.

In line with the NBA Constitution, NEC considered the applications for branch creation after confirming that each request was supported by not less than fifty (50) financial members, was properly submitted to the General Secretary, and that each proposed branch fell within an existing judicial division, as required by the Association’s governing framework.

After reviewing the submissions, NBA-NEC approved the establishment of the eight new branches as follows:

Branch Name Origin Branch(es) Coverage (Judicial Divisions) State
Bende Branch Ohafia Branch Bende, Igbere, and Uzuakoli Abia
Kwale Branch Oleh Branch Kwale and Obiaruku Delta
Iseyin Branch Ibadan Branch Iseyin and Okeho Oyo

Potiskum Branch Damaturu Branch Potiskum Yobe

The new branches comprise five from the Eastern Zone of the Association, two from the Western Zone, and one from the Northern Zone.

NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, commended NEC members for their commitment to strengthening grassroots participation within the Association. He stated that the new branches would bring the NBA closer to practitioners across the country and ensure more effective representation, engagement, and service delivery.
