Barely 24 hours after an attack on a church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area, another violent incident has been recorded in Kwara State, this time in Bokungi Village, Edu Local Government Area.

Armed men on Wednesday evening invaded rice farmlands and opened fire on farmers working on their fields, killing two and abducting four others.

The attack occurred during peak harvest hours, with the assailants reportedly surrounding the farmers as they gathered harvested rice. A community source confirmed the incident, noting that details were still being compiled due to the tense atmosphere in the area.

Residents said the gunmen operated unhindered for several minutes before fleeing with the abducted victims.

Further accounts from community leaders indicated that the two farmers who were killed had attempted to resist the attackers. The incident happened around 6 p.m., just as farmers were wrapping up their day’s work. Four farmers who were within close range were abducted, while three others managed to flee. Two were fatally shot, and one escaped with injuries. The deceased have since been buried according to local customs.

Community members say the rising wave of insecurity in Edu Local Government Area has forced many farmers to flee their settlements, especially during harvest periods when they are most vulnerable.

Efforts to reach the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
