The Osun Civil Societies Coalition (OCSC) has called for urgent dialogue to resolve the ongoing industrial action by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State chapter.

In a statement signed by OCSC Chairman Waheed Lawal, the coalition appealed to the Chief Judge of Osun State, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), and JUSUN leadership to immediately resume negotiations in the collective interest of the state and its citizens.

The strike, which began on September 19, 2025, has paralysed court activities across Osun State, raising concerns over access to justice. Lawal emphasised that “justice delayed remains justice denied. The people of Osun deserve a functional, fair, and responsive justice system that upholds the rule of law and protects the rights of every citizen.”

While acknowledging the legitimacy of the judiciary workers’ demands including improved welfare, overdue promotions, and access to professional training the coalition urged both parties to engage in lawful and peaceful dialogue.

The deadlock has been linked to unresolved issues such as delayed staff promotions for 2024–2025, non-sponsorship of training at the National Judicial Institute, and welfare grievances exacerbated by limited communication between JUSUN and the judicial management under Chief Judge Justice Adepele Ojo.

The OCSC cited constitutional provisions, including Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Trade Disputes Act, highlighting workers’ rights to unionise while mandating parties to seek peaceful resolution of disputes through mediation and conciliation.

The coalition called on all parties to comply with statutory obligations in the interest of industrial harmony and constitutional order. It also appealed to the Osun State Government and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Osogbo Branch, to support a neutral mediation platform for resolving the dispute.

Lawal stressed that prompt and cooperative action would help restore confidence in the state’s judiciary and prevent further hardship for litigants, lawyers, and citizens awaiting justice.
