The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dismissed a junior officer, Chukwu Nancy Ngozi, for orchestrating the abduction of her elder brother. She and another junior officer, Aliyu Usman, were found guilty after disciplinary proceedings of criminal conspiracy, theft, illegal possession of firearms, and kidnapping.

According to a statement issued by the Service’s spokesperson, ACI Akinsola Akinlabi, the disciplinary hearings were concluded on April 14 and September 4, 2025. The statement also noted that the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) recently reviewed 31 disciplinary cases involving NIS personnel, following recommendations from its Disciplinary and General-Purpose Committee (BDGPC) which met on July 11, 2025.
“Eight officers were dismissed from the Service for serious misconduct and violation of Service Regulations. In addition, five officers were compulsorily retired for offences bordering on misconduct,” Akinlabi stated.
He added that eight officers were demoted by one rank, while five others received written warnings for misconduct. He further disclosed that the Board reviewed the appeals of two dismissed officers, rejecting them for lack of merit. One officer will be reinstated following a successful appeal, while two others were completely exonerated of all charges.
Akinlabi reiterated that the Service had dismissed both Aliyu Usman and Chukwu Nancy Ngozi over proven allegations of criminal conspiracy, theft, illegal possession of firearms, and kidnapping. He emphasised that the disciplinary measures reflect the Board’s commitment to maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards across all cadres of the Service. He assured the public that such actions would be administered without favour and strictly in line with the relevant rules and regulations.
It will be recalled that in July the Enugu State Police Command arrested Nancy Chukwu and her sister, Juliet Chukwu—a officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)—for allegedly masterminding the abduction of their elder brother, Mr Friday Chukwu, along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway near the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla. A ransom of ₦30 million was reportedly paid for his release. They were also allegedly involved in the kidnapping of Mr Dennis Igwe, General Manager of China Oriental Mining Company in the same area.
