The Senator Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has called for the arrest of the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, over alleged criminal collusion with the former National Chairman of the party, Mr. Julius Abure.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by Usman’s spokesperson, Ken Asogwa, titled “INEC’s Acting Chair in Criminal Collusion with Julius Abure Over Fake Court Order – She Must Be Arrested”, the faction accused Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu of orchestrating what it described as a “brazen assault on democracy.”

The party faulted the Acting INEC boss for inviting Mr. Abure to a meeting with leaders of the 18 registered political parties on Tuesday, despite a subsisting Supreme Court judgment that, according to them, affirmed Senator Nenadi Usman as the legitimate National Chairman of the Labour Party.

“In her defence, she claimed that INEC was merely obeying a court order and that if our faction presented a valid judgment in our favour, the Commission would comply accordingly,” Asogwa stated. “However, our independent investigation has revealed that no such court order exists.”

According to him, Mr. Abure had filed a suit against INEC in Suit No: CV/1914/2025 before Justice Kayode Agunloye of the FCT High Court, Gwagwalada, but the court confirmed that no order recognising Abure as Chairman was ever issued.

The faction challenged Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu to produce “the so-called court order” she relied upon to extend recognition to Abure, alleging that INEC’s acting leadership “wilfully relied on a fabricated and non-existent order to justify an illegal and politically motivated act.”

Asogwa further asserted that even if such an order existed, it would still be null and void in light of the Supreme Court’s judgment of April 4, 2025, which, he said, conclusively upheld Senator Usman’s leadership.

While urging members nationwide to prepare for a peaceful demonstration, the Usman-led LP called on the incoming INEC Chairman to address what it described as a “grave injustice” and to “purge the Commission of individuals who collude with politicians to subvert justice.”
