As part of its sustained efforts to promote the rights, empowerment, and inclusion of lawyers with disabilities across Nigeria, the Nigerian Bar Association Lawyers with Disabilities Forum (NBA-LWDF) has embarked on a series of high-level courtesy visits to key partners and institutions in Abuja.

The delegation, led by the Forum’s leadership, visited the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Hon. Ayuba Gufwan; the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu; and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, J.S. Okutepa, SAN.

During the visits, the Forum extended formal invitations to the forthcoming NBA-LWDF Annual Conference, scheduled to hold on November 26–27, 2025, while also seeking collaboration toward advancing accessibility, empowerment, and the full participation of persons with disabilities in the legal profession and wider society.

At the NCPWD, Hon. Ayuba Gufwan commended the Forum’s consistent advocacy for inclusion and pledged the Commission’s continued support. He encouraged lawyers with disabilities to aspire to leadership and judicial positions, noting that their participation is vital to building a more equitable society.

Similarly, Dr. Sununu assured the Forum of the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate on sustainable initiatives that promote inclusion, empowerment, and poverty reduction among persons with disabilities.

In his engagement with the Forum, J.S. Okutepa, SAN, expressed deep admiration for the Forum’s mission and reaffirmed his personal commitment to disability inclusion. He revealed that his law firm has employed several lawyers with disabilities and pledged to make his office more accessible by installing an elevator a gesture the Forum described as both symbolic and exemplary.

The NBA Lawyers with Disabilities Forum continues to serve as a vital voice within the Nigerian Bar Association, championing equal opportunities, accessibility, and the full integration of persons with disabilities into every sphere of national and professional life.
