The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed allegations of forgery trailing preparations for its forthcoming National Convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15–16, 2025.

The party maintained that the official letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) notifying it of the convention was duly co-signed by the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Umar Damagum.
During the 102nd meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC), the issue reportedly came up, prompting the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, to clarify that all communications with INEC were jointly signed by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
A source who attended the NEC meeting said Senator Anyanwu raised no objection at the time, even as Governor Mohammed publicly announced that “all communication to INEC has been signed by our National Working Committee.”
“I can tell you that Anyanwu, who was present at the meeting, remained silent on the matter, which meant that Governor Mohammed’s announcement was a true reflection of what happened. The Secretary must be responding to outside influence,” a NEC member from the South East told The Guardian.
Meanwhile, despite the controversy and a pending court case over the conduct of the convention, the party’s Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barrister Okechukwu Osuoha, has assured that the exercise will proceed as planned.
Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, Osuoha confirmed that the case was already before the court but expressed confidence that the legal issues would not derail the process.
“My brother, you know that the matter is already in court. And in law, whenever a matter is before the court, you don’t comment on it because it amounts to what’s called sub judice,” he said.
While refraining from commenting on details of the suit, Osuoha added that the party remained hopeful of a favourable outcome. “Yes, I believe the next adjourned date is sometime next week. Let’s see how things go. The case is still pending in court, but everybody is hopeful. By the grace of God, we’ll survive it and still go ahead with the convention,” he added.
The legal dispute stems from a petition filed by Senator Anyanwu, who alleged that his signature was forged on a letter to INEC dated August 25, 2025, with Ref. No. PDP/DOM/GF.2/Vol.1M/25–140, notifying the commission of the convention.
In the petition addressed to the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), and INEC, Anyanwu denied authorising the letter, describing it as “a shocking case of forgery.”
“My attention has been drawn to an official letter to INEC purportedly signed by me. Regrettably, the quoted letter was never signed, authorised, or known to me. It is shocking to have a forged or cloned version of my signature on the letter,” he wrote.
The National Secretary, who has been at odds with the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Damagum, and other NWC members since the aftermath of the 2023 presidential primaries that produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has called for a full-scale investigation to identify those responsible.
Despite the internal rift, party leaders insist preparations for the Ibadan convention remain on course, with the PDP hierarchy expressing confidence that the event will reinforce unity and reposition the party ahead of future elections.
