The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has raised alarm over the abduction of Onyesom Peace Udoka, a newly called lawyer, and her sister along the Lokoja Okene axis in Kogi State while returning from the recent Call to Bar ceremony in Abuja.

In a statement, NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, described the incident as “unacceptable and utterly condemnable,” noting that it is particularly tragic that young lawyers, who represent the future of the profession, and their families are subjected to such trauma.

“No family should have to endure this, and no citizen should live under constant fear on our roads,” Osigwe said.

The NBA called on the Federal Government and security agencies to act with urgency to ensure the immediate and safe release of Udoka and all other abducted individuals. The association emphasized that protecting citizens is a primary duty of government that must be treated with utmost seriousness.

Osigwe further urged the government to intensify and sustain efforts to secure highways nationwide and restore public confidence in the safety of travel across the country.

The NBA expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and prayed for their safe and speedy return.
