The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) has formally notified the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the pendency of a Federal High Court suit challenging the legality and constitutionality of the newly introduced tinted glass permit policy.

In a letter dated September 5, 2025, addressed to the IGP at Police Force Headquarters, Garki, Abuja, NBA-SPIDEL highlighted Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1821/2025, instituted by the Incorporated Trustees of the Nigerian Bar Association against the IGP and another party. The association stated that the suit questions the lawfulness of the tinted glass permit policy, which is scheduled for enforcement from October 2, 2025.
NBA-SPIDEL, through its Secretary, Okey Leo Ohagba Esq., and Chairman, Olukunle O. Edun, SAN, demanded that the police respect the judicial process and suspend the implementation of the policy until the matter is determined by the court. Advance copies of the court processes were forwarded to the police alongside the notification.
Prof. Paul Ananaba, SAN, Chairman of NBA-SPIDEL’s Public Interest Litigation Committee, underscored that the action is aimed at upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the enforcement of government policies does not bypass constitutional scrutiny.
The association emphasized that, as the policy is now sub judice, any enforcement prior to the court’s determination would contravene judicial principles.
