The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has lost its pioneer Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, who reportedly slumped and passed away in the early hours of Monday, September 1, 2025.

Adayilo, an indigene of Abuja and the first person to occupy the role in the FCT Administration, had attended a church service on Sunday, where she reportedly made donations to the congregation.

Her death was confirmed by the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, and also by her Special Assistant on Media, Anthony Odey.

President Bola Tinubu had appointed Adayilo as the first substantive Head of Service of the FCT on October 6, 2024. She made history as both the pioneer and the first female Head of Service of the FCT. Prior to this appointment, she served as Permanent Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat.

Adayilo’s passing comes just a day after the death of former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, who died at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja. Arase, Nigeria’s 18th IGP and former Chairman of the Police Service Commission, had a distinguished career in law enforcement and public service, including international peacekeeping assignments and senior intelligence roles.
