The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed the Abuja office of Contact Tele-Performance Company (TLC), a visa support firm, over alleged consumer rights violations and the assault of law enforcement officers by agents of the company.

Mrs. Boladale Adeyinka, Director of Surveillance and Investigations at the FCCPC, led the enforcement team to the premises and explained that the Commission was compelled to seal the business due to serious infractions.

She stated that FCCPC enforcement agents were physically assaulted by individuals acting on behalf of the company.

According to Adeyinka, the Commission began its investigation into TLS—a private firm providing visa support services to Nigerians—in March 2025, following multiple consumer complaints about failure to deliver paid services.

She noted that on March 25, 2025, the FCCPC issued a letter to TLS as part of its standard complaint resolution procedure. Rather than address the complaint, TLS personnel allegedly assaulted FCCPC operatives who were performing their lawful duties.

The situation escalated further when TLS officials reportedly refused to accept a summons to appear before the Commission and allegedly assaulted police officers providing lawful security to FCCPC personnel during their enforcement operation.

“In line with Section 18(1)(f) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Tunji Bello, directed that the premises be sealed,” Adeyinka said.

She added that the Commission had reasonable grounds to believe that certain services provided by TLS were “inimical to consumer welfare,” and thus, its operations were suspended pending further investigation.

The FCCPC has summoned senior TLS executives, including the Country Manager and the Centre Manager, to appear before the Commission by 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, to explain their conduct and defend the company’s actions.

Adeyinka warned that failure to honour the summons would have serious legal consequences.

“Section 33(3) of the FCCPC Act states that failure to comply with a summons, without sufficient cause, is an offence punishable by up to three years imprisonment, a fine of up to ₦20 million, or both,” she noted.

She further explained that “Section 33(4) stipulates that any person who willfully obstructs or disrupts the Commission’s proceedings is subject to the same penalties. TLS’s actions clearly fall under these violations.”

She reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to enforcing consumer protection laws and holding service providers accountable.

When asked about the original complaint, Adeyinka revealed that it involved the non-provision of visa processing services for which consumers had already paid—a core concern affecting many Nigerians who depend on such centres for travel documentation.

The FCCPC has urged affected consumers to come forward with evidence of service failure to aid the ongoing investigation.

Adeyinka concluded by stating that the sealing of TLS’s office is a clear warning to service providers nationwide: the Commission will not hesitate to take firm action to protect consumer rights.
