The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has inaugurated a 12-member Ministerial Committee to assess and oversee the completion and transparent allocation of a 753-unit housing estate recently recovered from former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele. The estate is located in the Lokogoma District of Abuja.

The estate was handed over to the Ministry last week by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The action aligns with the administration’s resolve to repurpose recovered assets for public good under its Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking during the inauguration of the committee in Abuja on Monday, Dangiwa said the initiative demonstrates President Tinubu’s commitment to transforming abandoned or misused public assets into livable and affordable housing for Nigerians.

“This committee is a reflection of our collective drive to ensure that this recovered estate does not become another abandoned government project,” Dangiwa said. “Nigerians are watching. They want to see results. They want to see homes completed and allocated transparently. Think outside the box. Be result-oriented.”

The Minister named Dr. Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, as Chairman of the committee. Other members include:

  • Mr. Funsho Alabi, Director, Office of the Permanent Secretary – Alternate Chairman
  • QS Temitope Pemi, Director, Public Building and Housing Development – Secretary
  • ESV Collins Alabi, Director, Lands and Housing Development
  • Engr. Hikmat Toyin Aderibigbe, Director, Engineering Services
  • Margaret Ojewemimo Adejobi, Director, Urban and Regional Planning
  • Other key departmental representatives

The committee’s terms of reference include:

  • Conducting structural and integrity tests on all buildings
  • Verifying the number and condition of housing units
  • Estimating the value of work done and cost of completion
  • Assessing infrastructure needs like roads, power, water, and security
  • Creating standardized design and finishing guidelines
  • Proposing a transparent and inclusive allocation strategy through the Renewed Hope Housing Portal
  • Designing a public engagement and communication strategy
  • Ensuring inter-agency coordination with EFCC, FCTA, utility providers, and other stakeholders

The committee has been tasked to submit a preliminary report within four weeks.

Also speaking at the inauguration, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, emphasized the scale of the task and called for flexibility to co-opt other experts as needed. “This is a national call to service. We must get it right,” Ata stated.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Dr. Belgore pledged that the team would carry out its assignment with diligence and transparency. “This project can serve as a model for transforming recovered public assets into meaningful infrastructure. We assure Nigerians of our total commitment,” he said.
