The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has retained the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) at 27.5%, maintaining its current stance for the second time this year, following a series of aggressive hikes in 2024.

The decision was announced by CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso during a press briefing on Tuesday at the conclusion of the apex bank’s 300th Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting in Abuja.

Cardoso stated that the committee was unanimous in its decision to hold all key monetary parameters, indicating a cautious approach amidst ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy.

“The Committee was unanimous in its agreement to hold all parameters,” he said.

In addition to holding the benchmark interest rate, the MPC also retained the following:

  • Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR): 50%
  • Liquidity Ratio (LR): 30%

This marks the second consecutive hold in 2025 after a cycle of six straight rate hikes in 2024, aimed at curbing inflation and stabilizing the naira amid global economic pressures and domestic fiscal concerns.
