The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has formally constituted Branch Elections Appeal Committees for the East, North, and West zones, in line with Section 14(3)(i) of the NBA Constitution, 2015 (as amended in 2021). The announcement was made by the NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, and is subject to ratification by the National Executive Council (NEC).

In a statement issued on Saturday, Osigwe emphasized that the Committees were set up pursuant to Section 14(1) and are empowered under Section 14(2)(m) to entertain and resolve complaints and petitions arising from branch elections. They are also tasked with issuing directions and interpretations to guide the conduct of elections and determine the qualification or disqualification of candidates.

“I thank all members of the Committees for graciously making themselves available to selflessly serve the Bar in this capacity,” Osigwe stated. “I enjoin members of the Bar, particularly aspirants to various offices, to give the Committees maximum cooperation to ensure smooth transitions in the various Branches.”
