The Assistant General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr Ehi Barnabas-Henry, said Jos, Plateau State’s capital, is a place rich in culture, warmth, and peace and is not a war zone.

Barnabas-Henry asserted on Tuesday in Abuja, following the successful hosting of the NBA Section on Legal Practice Conference in Jos.

Speaking to newsmen, he said that though it was a herculean task trying to convince lawyers to attend the conference, with the assurance of security from Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, lawyers eventually thronged Jos in their numbers.

“They witnessed firsthand the warmth, beauty, culture, and peace of Jos that the media often fail to highlight,” he said.

According to him, the governor ensured that security measures were tightened across the state and, remarkably, provided six buses to transport over 100 registered delegates from Abuja to Jos safely.

“The governor, whose passion is to showcase Plateau’s rich culture and economic potential to the world, went above and beyond to support the conference,” he said.

The assistant general secretary also said that the Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Mr Paul Harris Ogbole, SAN, had insisted that the true story of Jos be told to Nigerians before the conference.

“He reminded us of the power of the media and said we must tell the true story of Jos and so, we doubled our efforts, pushing out authentic messages that reflected the peace, beauty, and hospitality of Jos.

“And guess what? Lawyers from across Nigeria arrived in Jos, and for four unforgettable days, we experienced something truly special,” he said.

Barnabas-Henry said that although negative news travelled fast, the reality on the ground could be vastly different adding that it was important to always verify facts before forming opinions.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the 2025 NBA-SLP conference was held in Jos from April 24 to April 27 with the theme: “Uncommon challenges in a rapidly changing legal environment.’’

Participants at the conference explored the contemporary challenges evolving in the legal environment.

They looked at the impact of global interconnectedness on legal systems, the growing demand for specialised legal services and provided insights into navigating the legal frontiers.
