The much-anticipated Early Bird registration for the 2025 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference (AGC) has officially closed, with a total of 9,180 lawyers securing their spots for the event scheduled to take place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Originally set to close on February 28, 2025, the registration deadline was extended to March 31, 2025, allowing more delegates to take advantage of the offer.

The early bird registration period saw a significant number of participants, though it fell short of last year’s 11,728 registrants. In 2024, the window closed with 9,099 delegates, despite an additional month extension for young lawyers.

The regular registration window has now opened, with the AGC Planning Committee (AGCPC) indicating that the NBA National Executive Council (NBA-NEC) is still deliberating on the venue for the conference. This comes after calls from some lawyers to consider relocating the AGC due to the recent declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu. A recent NBA Emergency NEC Meeting resolved to allow further consultations on the matter.

The AGCPC, led by Dr. Emeka Obegolu SAN, assured participants that, regardless of the venue decision, the 2025 AGC will be a memorable experience. The committee’s statement emphasized that all efforts are being made to ensure a successful conference, promising valuable networking, Continuing Legal Education (CLE) sessions, and engaging discussions.

The breakdown of registrants during the Early Bird period is as follows:

  • 1-9 years post-call: 3,652
  • 10-19 years post-call: 3,549
  • 20+ years post-call: 1,772
  • SANs, Benchers, and Attorneys-General: 176
  • Magistrates: 19
  • Senior Lawyers (70+ years and 40+ years post-call): 12
    Grand Total: 9,180

Despite the conclusion of the Early Bird registration, the AGCPC encourages those who have not yet registered to take advantage of the regular registration period. The 2025 AGC promises to offer an enriching experience for attendees, with comprehensive legal discussions and opportunities for professional growth.

As the committee awaits the final decision from the NBA-NEC regarding the conference’s venue, the AGCPC reaffirmed their commitment to organizing a top-tier event, regardless of location.
