The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has strongly condemned the gruesome mob killing of traveling hunters in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Describing the incident as alarming, Osigwe decried the rising trend of vigilante justice and mob action across Nigeria. He emphasized that no individual, regardless of the alleged crime, should be subjected to extrajudicial killings.
“It is deeply troubling that mobs continue to take the law into their hands, attacking and lynching suspected criminals, often without the intervention of law enforcement agencies,” Osigwe stated.
He stressed that such acts undermine the country’s criminal justice system and portray Nigeria as a lawless society. He called on security agencies to ensure that perpetrators of mob violence are identified and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent.
“The Edo State Government and relevant security agencies must conduct a thorough investigation and bring those responsible to justice. Vigilante justice has no place in a society governed by the rule of law,” he added.
The NBA President also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and urged Nigerians to reject mob action in all forms.
