The Chairman of the Annual General Conference Planning Committee (AGCPC) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for the 2025 Annual General Conference, Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN [Akajiugo] has provided an update on the NBA National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting currently taking place in Ondo State.

Obegolu announced that there will be official conference bags for attendees of the 2025 Annual General Conference (AGC), which is set to be held in Port Harcourt. He further disclosed that an NBA partner has fully sponsored the production of these bags as part of their support for the conference.

He revealed that 2,000 lawyers have already taken advantage of the early bird registration, which officially opened to the public on January 1, 2025. Despite the turnout, some members of NEC informally expressed concerns over the low registration figures, leading to a resolution to extend the early bird period.

In response to the slow registration rate, the NBA-NEC has approved an extension of the early bird registration deadline for the AGC 2025 conference fees from February 28, 2025, to March 31, 2025. This gives members an additional month to take advantage of discounted rates before standard registration fees apply.

Obegolu also presented the proposed budget for key activities at the 2025 Annual General Conference. The budget allocations are as follows:

    • Security: ₦30,000,000.00
    • Transportation and Logistics: ₦25,000,000.00
    • Airport Meet and Greet: ₦7,500,000.00
    • Support Staff: ₦15,000,000.00
    • Event Management Fee: ₦40,000,000.00
    • VAT: ₦3,000,000.00
    • Whova Conference Platform: $25,000.00 USD
    • Grand Total: ₦2,479,529,425.00

While NEC members reportedly appeared concerned about the current registration numbers, this was not officially addressed in the meeting.
