*Renowned Legal Professionals To Judge JASAN Foundation’s Inaugural Essay Competition

The Johnny Agim, SAN Foundation (JASAN Foundation) has announced an exciting opportunity for final year law students in Nigeria. As part of the launch of their organization and “The Legacy Dialogue,” the foundation is organizing an essay competition, offering scholarships to attend the Nigerian Law School (Bar Part II) for the 2024/2025 session.

500 Level law students from federal and state universities across Nigeria are invited to write an essay and submit a short video on the topic: “The role, challenges and strategies of mentorship in the Nigeria Legal Profession.” This is a chance for aspiring lawyers to reflect on their education, consider the opportunities ahead, and suggest how mentorship can help individuals and the legal profession succeed.

Ten winners will receive scholarships covering their tuition for the one-year Nigerian Law School program, providing a unique opportunity to excel in legal education without the financial burden. Benefits include networking with distinguished legal professionals, mentorship from elite practitioners and judges, and joining the #Legacy500 Elite Mentorship Programme.

To be eligible, applicants must be current 500 Level law students from recognized Nigerian universities, have a minimum CGPA of Second-Class Lower (2.2), demonstrate academic achievement and potential, and show proof of financial need.

The application requires a formal letter, personal statement, valid ID, proof of financial need, reference letters, and a 1,500-2,000 word essay. Applicants must also post a three-minute video summary of their essay on Instagram, tagging @_jasanfoundation and using the hashtag #Legacy500.

Essays will be judged by an independent expert panel, and winners will be announced during “The Legacy Dialogue” and launch of the JASAN Foundation on Friday, 13th September 2024.

The essay competition will be judged by a distinguished panel of legal professionals and academics, including:

1. Prof. John Oluwole A. AKINTAYO, PhD. – Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan
2. Mr. Kehinde O. OGUNWUMIJU, OFR., SAN, FCIArb. (U.K.) – Managing Partner at Afe Babalola & Co.
