Mazi Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN, the newly elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has announced the immediate formation of the Annual General Conference Planning Committee to ensure adequate time for preparations and planning of the next Annual General Conference (AGC).

During his inaugural speech, Osigwe emphasized the importance of early commencement of the planning process to facilitate timely arrangements, fundraising, partnerships, and sponsorships. He expressed confidence that this proactive approach would enable the NBA to achieve its goal of reducing the conference fees for young lawyers by as much as 20 percent.

The next AGC is proposed to be held in Rivers State from August 23 to August 30, 2025. The Conference Planning Committee will be chaired by Emeka Obegolu, SAN, with Sammie Somiari, SAN, serving as the Alternate Chair. Other members of the committee include Aminu Gadanya, Barbara Omosun (Secretary), Olaide Oluwayomi-Ajewole, Williams Daudu, and Hadiza Saeed Santali.

By constituting the Conference Planning Committee well in advance, the NBA President aims to ensure the smooth organization and execution of the AGC, which serves as a platform for legal professionals to network, exchange ideas, and discuss pressing issues affecting the legal profession and the nation at large.

Osigwe’s decision to prioritize the early formation of the planning committee underscores his commitment to effective leadership, financial prudence, and the welfare of young lawyers within the NBA.
