The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced the appointment of a five-member Caretaker Committee to manage the affairs of its Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL).

This follows the removal of the former Executive Committee by the National Executive Council on February 29, 2024.

In a notice dated March 4, 2024, and signed by the NBA General Secretary, Adesina Adegbite, the Caretaker Committee comprising Steve Adehi, SAN (Chairman), Yakubu Philemon, SAN (Alternate Chairman), Ben Oji (Secretary), Ronke Adeyemi (Member), and Eva Amadi (Treasurer) was officially inaugurated by the NBA President.

The notice stated that the erstwhile Executive Committee led by John Aikpokpo-Martins (Chairman) and Funmi Adeogun (Secretary), along with all other members, “no longer have authority to act in that capacity either for themselves, the NBA-SPIDEL or the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).”

The NBA-SPIDEL is a prominent specialized section focused on public interest litigation, human rights advocacy, and promoting access to justice for underserved communities.
