The Council of Legal Education (CLE) held its quarterly meeting on February 13th, led by Chief Emeka Ngige. Several key resolutions were adopted at the meeting.

The CLE approved the results of the November 2023 Bar Final Examinations taken by over 5,000 students. 5% scored First Class, 19% Second Class Upper, 41% Second Class Lower, 18% Pass, 5% Conditional Pass, and 11% Failed.

The Council accredited several new university law programs at Adamawa State University and others. It also increased admission quotas for the American University of Nigeria.

A number of promotions, appointments, and disciplinary actions for senior CLE staff were endorsed. New Deputy Directors-General were named for various Nigerian Law School campuses.

Infrastructure development and support was noted from the Federal Government and several state governments, aimed at improving facilities at Nigerian Law School campuses.

The CLE made plans to start a mid-year 2024 academic session to clear backlogs from COVID-19 and past academic staff strikes. However, universities that exceeded their admission quotas will not take part.

The full slate of resolutions indicates the CLE’s close management of Nigerian legal education amidst pandemic recovery and infrastructure needs.
