Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, today delivered a speech at the ongoing 17th Annual Business Law Conference organized by the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL). The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundyin, Esq., emphasized the need for lawyers and stakeholders to use their expertise to align laws and practices with changing global realities.

The conference, holding in Lagos, is focusing on priorities for law, policy, and regulation in the Nigerian business landscape.

In his speech, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his gratitude for the invitation to participate in the conference, acknowledging the presence of learned minds and distinguished delegates from both Lagos and across Nigeria. He recognized the challenges faced by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nigeria, highlighting the importance of reconciling global aspirations with local realities.

The Governor further acknowledged that while Nigeria boasts a diverse and dynamic economy brimming with opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors, there are internal and external challenges that hinder business success.

By addressing local challenges through appropriate policies and legal frameworks, a resilient economic ecosystem can be built to withstand external shocks and uncertainties.
He stressed the significance of creating a favorable regulatory environment that promotes growth, innovation, and transparency while emphasizing the role of policies in signaling the government’s focus and enabling investors to make informed decisions. The administration is dedicated to simplifying business processes and enhancing the ease of doing business in Lagos State.

Furthermore, the Governor expressed the commitment to continuously improve the judicial system in collaboration with the NBA, aiming to expedite adjudication while upholding fairness and the rule of law.

Government regulations, according to Governor Sanwo-Olu, are vital for fostering fairness, transparency, and accountability in the marketplace. These regulations safeguard the interests of stakeholders, including investors and the public, ensuring businesses operate ethically and responsibly.

The administration’s goal is to strengthen the regulatory environment, facilitating business growth while upholding established rules and standards.

Governor Sanwo-Olu unveiled the developmental policy objectives and roadmap of his administration, known as Project THEMES+. This initiative aligns with the vision of Prince’s Trust International, an enterprise NGO established by King Charles III to support young people’s participation in economic growth through entrepreneurship. The partnership with Prince’s Trust International and other similar collaborations is made possible by the enabling environment created through friendly policies and regulatory frameworks.

Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in the conference’s ability to address challenges and provide solutions while shaping policy design and regulation in Nigeria’s business landscape. He concluded by emphasizing the government’s commitment to prioritizing law, policy, and regulation to promote economic development, improve citizens’ lives, and encourage collaboration with lawyers and stakeholders to achieve these goals.
