The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest Litigation and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) has taken a decisive step in response to the recent policy mandating the yearly renewal of Proof of Ownership Certificates for vehicles by the Joint Tax Board.

In line with their commitment to defending the rights of the public and combating oppressive and illegal policies, the leadership of NBA-SPIDEL have formed a Legal Team to thoroughly examine the legality of this policy and initiate necessary legal actions, including litigation, to challenge it head-on.

The appointed members of the Legal Team are distinguished lawyers with expertise in different areas of law and diverse backgrounds across various branches of the Nigerian Bar Association. The team will be led by Kunle Edun. Other members include Francis Ogunbowale from the Ikeja branch, Maxwell Opara from the Abuja branch, Felix Akpowowo from the Warri branch, Adeola Folarin from the Ikeja branch, Ibrahim Al-Hussein from the Gombe branch, and Izu Aniagu from the Enugu branch. The team will be guided by the Ikeazor Akaraiwe, SAN, who brings extensive experience and expertise to the table.

In a statement signed by the SPIDEL Secretary Funmi Adeogun and Chairman, John Aikpokpo-Martins, the Section expressed its unwavering commitment to protecting the interests of the public and challenging any policies that are deemed oppressive or unlawful. The newly sworn-in SPIDEL Chairman emphasized the need to address this particular policy promptly and proactively to ensure the preservation of citizens’ rights.
