Gunmen suspected to be Armed Robbers on Wednesday night killed a Senior Resident Doctor with Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital identified as Dr Casmir Okpe.

In an eyewitness video sighted, one of the voices of some men present during the recording of the video could be heard describing the identity of the victim, saying, “This is someone who was shot dead by armed robbers this night. He is a doctor. He is Doctor Okpe Casmir Ikechukwu. He was shot dead at Ichi. His car is a Toyota Avalon, Golden colour. His plate number is DX 138-LSD.
“He is at Ichi Girls Bus Stop in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State. His people should come for him immediately please.”
The murder of the Doctor was also confirmed by the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Anambra State in a statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer.
The NMA Chairman, Dr. Jane Ezeonu described the Late Dr. Casmir as a very calm man who was deliberate about mentoring younger doctors to improve the quality of healthcare delivery in Anambra State.
The statement reads, “It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the shocking and devastating news of gruesome murder of our own, Dr Casmir Okpe, a Senior Resident with Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi.
We learnt that he was shot at Ichi – Nnewi road while driving home from work last night, Wednesday 12th October 2022.
Dr Okpe was a calm fellow who contributed his best in training younger colleagues and in healthcare delivery in Anambra.”
The NMA also lamented about how Doctors are made to bear the brunt of the insecurity ravaging the State, and called on the DSS to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the culprits to book.
“It is most unfortunate that Doctors will continue to bear the worst brunt of security lapses in the State. But for how long will this continue?
The Nigerian Medical Association Anambra State Branch has appealed to the Director of State Security Services for immediate investigation of this ugly incident and more importantly, to step up security measures to circumvent reoccurrence. He reassured us that his team is committed to thorough investigation of the case.
Meanwhile, it is important that we as Doctors must consider our security as priority in all circumstances.”
