The Electoral Reform Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on members to submit memoranda on issues relating to the electoral practices of the NBA.

You would recall that the President of the NBA, Y.C Maikyau SAN had earlier inaugurated an Electoral Reform Committee for the purpose of improving the electoral practices of the NBA.

In notice issued by the National Assistant Publicity Secretary, Charles Olawale Ajiboye sighted by TheNigeriaLawyer, this call was made in furtherance of the committee’s mandates, and issued to all NBA Branches (through their chairmen), members of the NBA, stakeholders and interest groups in the legal profession.

According to the notice, all memoranda to be submitted should focus on the underlisted matters and any other matters connected thereto, namely:

1. Identify forms and avenues for incurring excessive expenditure by Aspirants/Candidates in NBA elections;

2. Identify unethical and unprofessional electoral practices by Aspirants/Candidates and members of the Bar during electioneering campaigns;

3. Make suggestions/recommendations on ways and means of eradicating excessive expenditure, inducements and/or other unwholesome practices during NBA electioneering campaigns;

4. Make any further representations relevant to the terms of reference (TOR) of this Committee.

All memoranda are expected to be concise and straight to the point, in 14-point font size format with double line spacing and a maximum of five (5) pages, as specified by the notice.

Furthermore, the notice established that all memoranda are expected to be addressed to the Secretary of the committee and submitted via e-mail to: electoralreform22@nigerianbar.org.ng and within 14 days from the date of this publication.

The Asst. Publicity Secretary encouraged all members to participate actively and support the committee through submitting their memoranda, in this all important task.
