*Says It Decided To Monetize Accommodation For Chairmen And Secretaries Due To Late Approval By National Executive Committee

The Leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association has clarified its payment of N100,000 each to Branch Chairmen and Secretaries attending this year’s pre-AGC Meeting and the 2022 NBA AGM.
The clarification which followed enquiries by TheNigeriaLawyer, noted that the provision of accommodation for Branch Chairmen and Secretaries attending the pre-AGC NEC Meeting and AGM was a regular custom which was initially not considered this year due to limited resources.
However, upon approval by the National Executive Committee of the Association, provision was made for Branch Chairmen and Secretaries who will be attending the pre-AGC Meeting and the 2022 AGM.
The statement also noted that given further consideration about the time when the approval was made and the fact that most of the beneficiaries have already secured accommodations themselves, the accommodation provision will therefore be made monetary by paying Chairmen and Secretaries N100,000 each.
According to the Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Dr. Rapulu Nduka the clarification became imperative due to insinuations that paints the picture that the NBA leadership are bribing Chairmen and Secretaries.
The full statement reads:
“The above message is what was sent to Chairmen and Secretaries of Branches. The NBA normally takes care of the accommodation of Chairmen and Secretaries during NEC meetings.
The Chairmen requested for 7 Nights accommodation and we gave them accommodation for 2 nights as is customary with NEC attendance.
The Chief Registrar of Supreme Court only recently remitted Bar Practice Fees to the NBA, after a long stand-off which was resolved by the CJN, and as such we were unable to make hotel reservations for Chairmen and Secretaries on time.
In view of the fact that a number of Chairmen and Secretaries had informed the NBA that they had already made arrangements for their accommodation in Lagos, it accorded with common sense that they be reimbursed instead of booking fresh accommodations for them.”
