Two lawyers, Zak Babah and Akinkunmi Abolade, have faulted the Tanzanian police authorities for arresting Nigerian musician Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe, aka Kizz Daniel.

They argued that the Nigerian’s conduct in the East African country on Monday was not criminal and he should not have been arrested.

Kizz Daniel was on August 7 briefly detained at the Oyster Bay Police Station Civil Police in the Tanzanian capital Dar es Salaam for failing to perform at a show, despite being paid upfront.

He had been scheduled to perform at a paid-for music concert, at the Warehouse, Old Nextdoor Arena in Dar es Salaam.

The non-appearance of the singer angered his fans, leading to the destruction of equipment at the venue, hence his arrest.

The Afro-pop and R and B singer was released the same day following the intervention of the Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission.

Reacting to news of the ‘Buga” hitmaker’s arrest in posts on their social media handles, Babah and Abolade argued that Kizz Daniel’s conduct was a purely civil matter.

Babah, writing on Facebook, said: “It is the promoter’s responsibility to manage such fallouts through alternative shows or refunds”.

“This is purely a contractual and civil matter that the police should never be involved to carry out an illegitimate arrest”.

Abolade, on Twitter as The billionaire Lawyer @akinthelaw said, “While Kizz Daniel’s non-appearance at the show is wrong, his arrest is illegal and a violation of his right.

“At worst, Kizz Daniel’s action is only a breach of contract, an act which is purely civil and cannot warrant an arrest.”
