Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo, former representative of Adamawa North Senatorial District in the 9th and early 10th Senate, has denied reports claiming that he was in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja over alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old student.
Speaking on Friday morning from his Abuja residence in Katampe Extension, Senator Abbo described the allegations as “baseless, unfounded and mischievous,” insisting that he was at home throughout Thursday and never detained by police.
“The said report is handiwork of my political detractors. It is an orchestrated smear campaign to disturb my peace by political enemies,” Abbo said during a telephone conversation with journalists covering the Senate.
The embattled lawmaker acknowledged that he had recently reported a desperate demand for N5 million from a female individual to the FCID, where both parties were invited for questioning. He clarified that the current allegations linking him to the sexual assault case are entirely separate and unrelated.
The controversy surfaced online on Thursday, with media platforms reporting that Senator Abbo was in police custody following accusations that he sexually assaulted a minor at his Katampe residence on June 29, 2025. Reports also suggested that the victim’s family received attempts at financial inducement and that 2023 Adamawa governorship candidate Senator Aishatu Binani allegedly visited them to discourage pursuit of the matter.
Senator Abbo’s statement comes amid a series of scandals that have trailed his political career, including a widely publicized 2019 incident where a viral video showed him assaulting a woman at a sex toy shop in Abuja, and previous accusations involving an alleged attempt to blackmail a married woman with a sex tape.
