Mohammed Adamu, the inspector-general of police (IGP), has called on Umar Muri, Kaduna state commissioner of police, to address the controversy trailing a recent photo by Rahama Sadau, a Kannywood actress.

In a letter signed by Idowu Owohunwa, the principal staff officer to the IGP, Adamu also directed Muri to “furnish him with updates accordingly.”

“I am to convey the directive of the Inspector General of Police that you treat proactively with a view to ensuring that the development does not result in any act that could threaten public peace and security,” the letter read.

“The Inspector-General of Police further directs that you furnish him with updates accordingly.”

Last Sunday, Sadau had sparked controversy on Twitter after she shared a photo of herself in a backless dress.

In the now-deleted picture, the 26-year-old Kannywood star had posed in a tight-fitted pink gown that exposed her skin from her neck region down to the upper section of her waist.

The development had elicited mixed reactions among several conservative Muslims, some of whom quickly condemned her as having committed “haram”, an act that is forbidden by Islamic law.

It had also prompted the Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN), an umbrella body of northern filmmakers popularly called Kannywood, to hand the actress her second suspension in four years.

In October 2016, TheCable Lifestyle had reported how Sadau was expelled from Kannywood for “hugging and cuddling” in a music video.
