Lawyers for Welfare Advocacy(LAWFWA) has Called on Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and African Bar Association to match words with action by instituting a criminal charge against Federal Republic of Nigeria in International Criminal Court.

The group made this call on Wednesday following the massacre of innocent protesters at Lekki Toll gate yesterday by the armed military Personnel.

The group while condemning the reckless killings of Nigerians in its statement signed by the convener, Nnanwike  Obah Esq and the Secretary, Ezekiel Ugwueze Esq, made available  to TheNigerialawyer(TNL) said “it is an unforgettable day in the anal of history of Administration of president Mohammadu Buhari.”

The group said it was “saddened with the ugly news of death of about 79 peaceful protesters by armed military personnel yesterday, 20th October,2020 at  Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos State.”

LAWFWA,  described the act as the “most barbaric way of quelling a peaceful protest in the modern world.”

“By virtue of section 14: 2(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria: ‘the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of the government’

“It is more saddening that government that has neglected the security and welfare of her citizens has resorted in killing them instead of addressing the yearning demands of the people through whom government derives its powers and authority.

“We therefore condemn the  massacre of innocent Nigerian youths by Armed military Men of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“We urge the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and African Bar Association (AfBA) to match words with action by instituting criminal charge against Federal Republic of Nigeria in International Criminal Court and ensure the perpetrators of the mayhem are brought to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement read.
