The Eastern Bar Forum (EBF) has said that it will no longer keep quiet in respect of the vacancy in office of the Chief Judge of Cross River State.

In a statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL) signed by its Governor, S. Long Williams, Esq., EBF described the non-appointment of anyone to occupy the office as “absolute tyranny” and “affront” to the Nigerian constitution

“You will recall that the issue of the office of the Chief Judge of Cross Rivers State has been a thorny issue till date to the extent that it is now almost fifty (50) days running that the state has being without a Chief Judge or an acting Chief Judge.

“We cannot continue to be silent in the face of absolute tyranny, indiscipline and affront on the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.” the statement reads in part

The Forum, therefore, called on lawyers in the jurisdiction and well-meaning Nigerians to join the planned protest which is slated to commence on Monday, October 19.

The statement said, “in view of the foregoing, we call on the NBA Branches of Calabar, Ogoja & Ikom, all lawyers in Cross Rivers State, Akwa Ibom State, civil society groups and all well-meaning citizens to join and participate in the planned protest billed to commence from tomorrow, Monday, 19th October, 2020 in Calabar, Cross Rivers State.

“The Eastern Bar Forum endorses the said planned protest and will do all legally and humanly possible to make it a success.

” God bless NBA
God bless EBF
God bless Cross Rivers State.”
