Wizkid, an award-winning singer, says the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) signals the dawn of a new Nigeria.

Mohammed Adamu, the inspector-general of police (IGP), had on Sunday dissolved the police unit after heated protests across the nation.

In a flurry of tweets, the ‘Fever’ crooner said the disbandment was indicative of the fact that the people can bring about societal rebirth with such a united voice.

The music star also commended Nigerians who supported the #EndSARS campaign, urging them to dissipate similar energy in demanding good governance in the country.

“This is just the beginning!! We won our fight to #ENDSARS .. now Reform the Nigerian police!! #Endpolice brutality! We deserve good governance! #Endpolicebrutality,” he wrote.

“It’s not over yet, don’t let them say you don’t have a voice. Now my people, you see what our voices did. This is the beginning of a new Nigeria! Nigerian youths!! Know your rights and fight for it ! You deserve it. We all deserve it.”

Wizkid joined one of the #EndSars protests in London on Sunday, where he challenged the crowd to demand better from the Nigerian government and officials.

The protest took place at the Nigeria High Commission, Thai Square on Sunday with the rapper urging Nigerian youths to speak up against ills in the country.

“My people, I want this message to go out to every Nigerian youth. Your voice has been heard,” he added. “Don’t let anyone tell you you don’t have a voice. You all have a voice! And don’t be scared to speak up.”

While reiterating that Nigerians “deserve good government,” Wizkid thanked the protesters for coming out en masse to agitate against police brutality and concluded that “we have achieved our goal.”

The protest in London comes after similar agitations had taken place in several cities in Nigeria, calling for the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit of the Police loathed by millions in the country.
