Recall that the NBA President, in his bid to close the political gap created in NBA Abuja, set up a Committee to conduct a Unified Election for the two factions in hope that such an action will be the first critical step in resolving the impasse.

The said Committee is headed by the General Secretary, Jonathan Taidi. The General Secretary and his team members have made some useful consultations which i considered useful and advised that is it limited to the scope of the content of Mr. President’s letter. I had a good deliberation with the Committee and encouraged an enlarged meeting with my own block of the Branch – which turned out to be very fruitful too.

The Committee was advised by me and others that they must be careful not to constitute themselves into a reconciliation Committee as that process will not end within the time frame available to them.

However, it will appear that the Jonathan Taidi led Electoral Committee has gradually metamorphosed into a PEACE AND RECONCILIATION COMMITTEE with a sinister intention of ensuring that one block does not conduct its own election within time and thereby foist an undesirable outcome that will frustrate the Folarin led block into extinction. This, i dare say, is a dishonourable scheme which will only exacerbate the protracted crisis.

What is the business of Jonathan Taidi Committee with what the various factional Electoral Committees have done? Is he afraid of some interest groups who do not want an openly transparent process? Why hasn’t his team made public their Electoral Guidelines? Is he confused as to what his term of reference is? Or, is the NBA President publicly saying one thing and then privately directing the Taidi Committee to do the exact opposite?

If the NBA President is truly interested in seeing a unified Election in Abuja, which i support, he must quickly rein in on his appointed Electoral Committee before they cause a greater crisis than what was.

The reconciliation of both blocks is going to be a gradual, but long process that will be handled internally. 70% of the issues are actually personal and if such never reconcile, it wont affect the unity of the Branch. After all, these personal bitterness had existed long before the Electoral heist that led to the break up of the Branch.

Mr. President must tell Taidi that he has no business relying on whatever kind of Electoral Screening done by either of the Committees. His Committee must call for fresh nominations in order to create the assurance that whoever emerges as a member of the EXCO is not a product of a factional Electoral Committee.

I have made this points to Mr. Jonathan Taidi privately, on more than 5 occasions and it has become very obvious that he hasn’t been sincere with his utterances and assurances. It has also become very obvious that Taidi is playing a script, but i cannot say whose script he is playing – but he is certainly playing a script that isn’t in the overall interest of ensuring a transparent transition from two factions to one.

To our committed members across the divide who have continually reached out to encourage the unification of our branch, do not despair. Keep reaching out and perhaps it is your efforts that will materialise and not this unstable National Committee.

I must also commend Chief Awomolo, SAN ( without recognising his Committee as that is an illegal body) for his personal commitment to restoring peace in the Branch.

Here also, i will not fail to commend Mr. Folarin Aluko for his willingness to surrender his lawful mandate in order to achieve a reconciliation of the Branch. You are a good Chairman and leader.

All aspirants must insist that a fresh process must be opened for nominations and Screening of candidates as that will make any one who emerges the consensus candidate of the Branch without factional leanings or colouration.

Mr. President, act now as it is appearing that your EXCO is in disarray and working at cross purposes.

Thank you all.

Silas Joseph Onu, MCIArb.( UK)
Past Publicity Secretary,
NBA Abuja.
