Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Muslims to pray at home during the forthcoming Eld-Fitri festival.

This was contained in a statement signed by Professor Salisu Shehu, Deputy Secretary-General, NSCIA on Wednesday.

According to him, the advice was given in view of the current COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the globe. T

Though it is not clear if some states like Yobe, Jigawa, Gombe, Borno and Zamfara who have opened their mosques and directed Idi prayers on Eid-Fitr will abide by the Sultan’s advice.

However, the spiritual leader of Muslims in the country has counselled Muslim faithful to observe the Eld-Fitri prayer in their respective homes on Saturday or Sunday if that is what the situation requires.

It will be recalled that the Eld-Fitri festival which signifies the end of the one month of Ramadan fast is slated to take place on Saturday, 23rd, May 2020, if the Shawwal month is cited on Friday, 22nd, May 2020.

Usually during the Eid-Fitr, Muslims faithful troop out in large number to observe two rakaats. To this end, the statement advised Muslims to be law-abiding in all circumstances.
