The Federal High Court in Lagos State, on Thursday, sentenced a 20-year-old man, Saidi Fasanya, to one year imprisonment for trafficking 2.2 grammes of cocaine.
Justice Mohammed Yunusa handed down the sentence after a review of the facts by the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan.
Yunusa said that the sentence was done in accordance with the law.
Fasanya, who was arraigned on September 10 by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), had pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal dealing in narcotic drug.
Earlier, Aernan told the court that the convict committed the offence on July 5 at Ipodo Street in Ikeja, Lagos.
“The accused was caught selling some substances to the public which tested positive to cocaine, a narcotic drug at the NDLEA forensic laboratory,” he said.
He said that the offence contravened Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA, Cap N30, Law of the Federation, 2004.
Counsel to the accused, Mrs Lilian Omotunde, had pleaded with the court to be lenient with her client.
“I am sure he had learnt his lessons while in detention,” Omotunde said.]]>
