Police officers who invaded the Benue State House of Assembly Complex and sealed up the premises yesterday obeyed the interim injunction restraining them from sealing the complex or interfering with the functions of the new leadership of the House. The new speaker, Titus Uba after inspection of offices in the assembly told newsmen that the police have finally vacated the assembly and that the lawmakers have come to take over the assembly to commence their legitimate duties. Uba commended President Muhammadu Buhari for distancing himself from what was happening in the assembly, which led to the moving out of the police. “We are very grateful to the president because he distanced himself from what was happening here at the assembly, you were all aware of the harassment of members and civil servants at the assembly premises, but we thank God that with what the president has said all the police have moved away and we will report in earnest at the appropriate time to start our work,” he said. He also applauded Nigerians who stood by them in the struggle to save the soul of in the state. He said that the House has been adjourned and will reconvene at the stipulated time to carry out their legitimate duties. It would be recalled that in order to forestall breakdown of law and order, the lawmakers headed to the High Court of Benue State and secured an order of interim injunction restraining the police from sealing the complex or interfering with the functions of the new leadership of the House.]]>
