The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, A.B. Mahmoud, SAN, has ordered that the verification exercise of members for the NBA forthcoming National Election be suspended until the 8th day of August, 2018. This was contained in a press statement released by the NBA president on the 6th day of August, 2018 and made available to TheNigerialawyer (TNL). The decision was made following a meeting held with some stakeholders, the Electoral Committee of the NBA and Presidential candidates of the forthcoming election. According to the directives of Mr. President, the verification will now commence on the 8th of August and last till the 11th day of August, 2018, while the reconciliation of verification data will begin from Saturday the 11th to Wednesday, the 15th of August, 2018. Publication of the final Voters’ List will be on the 16TH while the transfer and testing of voting platform will be commence on the 18th of August, with the election scheduled for the 19th and 20th of same month. According to the NBA president, the suspension of the verification exercise is necessary to pave way for an easier means of verifying voters so that eligible voters will not be disenfranchised. The NBA president noted that due to the difficulties in verifying members, the NBA has introduced the simplified process to enable outstanding members eligible to vote but unable to verify their details, to do so. Highlighting some of the hitches so far experienced and of course, the success so far, he added that the simplified form will be made available for completion and submitted online, after which a receipt will be issued. ”The Simplified form will be made available for completion and submission online. ”Upon collation of all data from the simplified form, Crenet shall then thereafter, review and verify the details with support from the NBA Annual Practicing Fee List, NBA Bar Services Unit, and Supreme Court Records and thereafter publish a final list,” he said. TheNigerialawyer (TNL) recalls that various complaints have been earlier forwarded to the Electoral Committee by branch chairmen over the difficulties experienced in the verification exercise of members. ]]>
