The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of over 850 additional troops to reinforce ongoing military operations in Plateau State following a fresh wave of deadly attacks.

The reinforcement comes in the wake of the recent violence in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, where at least 28 persons were killed.

Confirming the development in a statement on Thursday, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Chinonso Oteh, said the additional troops would support personnel already deployed in restoring calm and maintaining law and order in affected communities.

He stated that the deployment, carried out under Operation ENDURING PEACE, was part of a swift response by the Nigerian Army to contain the deteriorating security situation in parts of the state.

“In a swift and decisive move to contain the escalating security situation in parts of Plateau State, the Chief of Army Staff has approved the immediate deployment of additional troops to strengthen ongoing operations under Operation ENDURING PEACE,” the statement said.

Addressing troops at the Joint Task Force Headquarters in Jos, the Army Chief charged them to remain professional, disciplined and resolute in tackling criminal elements threatening the peace of law-abiding citizens.

He assured the troops that adequate logistics and operational support had been provided to ensure the successful execution of their mandate.

The newly deployed personnel have been tasked with protecting lives and property, as well as enhancing security across the state.

The move follows earlier security interventions after the March 29 attack, including the deployment of Police Mobile Force units and other tactical teams to Plateau State on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
