A 68-year-old man was rescued alive on Sunday morning after falling into a deep well while attempting to retrieve his mobile phone at Mobolorunduro Mosque, Molefalafia, Oke-Ado, in the Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident occurred around 6:10 a.m., prompting swift intervention from the Oyo State Fire Service following a distress call.

According to a resident, Ajadi Olaleye, who spoke with journalists in Ibadan, “The fire fighters were able to rescue him alive and subsequently handed him over to his family for proper medicare.”

Confirming the incident, the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Service Reform, Adebayo Akinwande, said the agency received a report that an elderly man had fallen into a well located within the premises of Mobolorunduro Mosque on Ajeigbe Street, Molefalafia, Oke-Ado.

Akinwande said, “The fire personnel, led by ACFS Adedeji, promptly deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that the 68-year-old man had fallen into the well while trying to recover his lost phone.”

He added that the rescue team took all necessary safety precautions, tied rescue knots, and successfully brought the man out alive.

“The cause of the incident was as a result of ignorance — not knowing the danger associated with entering a well without proper training,” he noted.

Akinwande urged the public to refrain from risky behaviors that could endanger their lives and stressed the commitment of the state government to protecting the lives and property of all citizens.
