*As Justice Mary Peter-Odili Charges New Wigs: Serve with Humanity, Enrich Legal Knowledge

Prof. Isa Chiroma, SAN, the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, announced that 1,085 candidates, equivalent to 65.09 percent of those who participated, were successful in the school’s final examinations conducted in July.

This update was delivered during the presentation of the candidates’ general performance at the October 2023 Call to Bar ceremony held in Abuja.

In his address to the successful candidates, Chiroma encouraged them to uphold the legal profession’s values and principles while making the best of their legal careers. He emphasized the importance of strict adherence to legal ethics and norms, which are integral to the legal profession’s integrity.

A total of 1,666 students participated in the rigorous July examinations, with 1,085 emerging victorious. The Director-General applauded both the academic and non-academic staff for their dedicated efforts in closely monitoring the candidates during their training.

Chiroma expressed confidence in the character and preparedness of the successful candidates, asserting that they have met the high standards set by the Nigerian Bar Association. He assured the assembly that the candidates were indeed fit and proper individuals for admission to the Nigerian Bar.

Retired Justice Mary Peter-Odili, Chairman of the Body of Benchers, addressed the graduands, calling on them to serve their country with humanity, justice, impartiality, and professionalism. She encouraged them to continuously enhance their legal knowledge by staying up-to-date with statutes, case laws, and legal opinions, which are essential to becoming successful lawyers.

Mary Peter-Odili also urged the graduands to display respect for their seniors, adhere strictly to the legal profession’s dress code, and utilize social media platforms positively without tarnishing the profession’s reputation.

Mr. Suleiman Sani, a parent of one of the successful graduands, expressed his appreciation for witnessing his child’s Call to Bar ceremony. He noted the divine privilege of witnessing both of his daughters becoming lawyers, with one being called to the Bar three years ago, and the younger one graduating this year. He expressed gratitude for the journey and prayed for the continued success of all the graduands in their legal careers, advising them to remain thankful to their parents.
