The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has clarified the voter verification process for the upcoming NBA elections, following online comments that raised concerns about the procedures.
In a statement, the ECNBA explained that multiple rounds of checks are being conducted on the submitted online verification forms, including actual calls to authenticate that the form submissions came from the right person or member on the database.
The statement addressed comments made by a contributor referred to as “Lord of Host,” who expressed surprise at the ECNBA calling members for further verification after they had submitted their online forms.
“The gentleman had imagined, in his words, that ‘ECNBA would not stoop low’ to call members for further verification, but that is exactly what service ought to be, ‘stooping low,’ and building credibility for our election processes,” the statement read.
The ECNBA emphasized the importance of validating all entries to provide authentic voter data and ensure a credible electoral process.
Additionally, the committee advised members to validate callers before responding to further queries or inquiries, stating, “Perhaps in future, further credibility can be built in our processes by simply verifying what you are unsure of from ECNBA.”
The statement also acknowledged the online comments made by another contributor, Mr. Onu, and thanked all those who raised concerns, noting that it would help improve the process.
