Two men, Azeez Bashiru (41) and Sikiru Ogunrin (40), were on Thursday arraigned in an Iyaganku magistrates’ court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly assaulting and threatening the life of a traditional ruler, Chief Akeem Tijani, the Baale of Igunrin village.

The police charged the defendants with conspiracy, assault, threat to life and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

The prosecutor, ASP Sikiru Ibrahim, told the court that the defendants and others (at large) on November 22, 2022, at about 4pm on Iseyin road, Ibadan, flogged the traditional ruler and threatened violence on his family.

He said the defendants also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by blocking a road with stones, bottles and other weapons.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs T. B. Oyekanmi, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each and two sureties in like sum and adjourned to March 1. (NAN)
