Kimpact Development Initiative, a non-governmental organisation, has launched a platform where citizens can have access to information on proceedings and the outcome of the election petition tribunals.

The organisation which focuses on democratic development, on Tuesday, launched “The election petition tribunal data dashboard”.

According to the platform, a total of 1,044 petitions have been filed across the nation challenging the outcome of the 2023 elections.

The dashboard revealed that 470 petitions have been filed against the house representatives election, 327 against the state house of assembly, 180 against the senatorial, 62 against the governorship, and five against the presidential poll.

Based on geo-political zones, 301 petitions were filed in the south-south, 187 in the south-east, 166 in the south-west, 149 in north central, 124 in the north-west and 106 in the north-east.

The platform also showed that 883 petitions were filed on the grounds of non-compliance and corrupt practices and 532 were filed against candidates elected without the majority of lawful votes cast.

Others are 279 petitions against candidates elected but were not qualified to contest the elections.

A statement released by the organisation said the data dashboard also captures “the petition log, where the user can see the details and get a copy of all petitions filed”.

“The main objective of the EPT dashboard is to provide electoral justice system-related information, especially the EPT, in a simplified manner that is easily accessible by the citizen,” the statement reads.

“We believe this is very important to citizen participation and public enlightening of the EPT processes and procedures.”
