Six students of the Nigerian Law School have been abducted by gunmen suspected to be bandits while travelling to the institution’s Yola campus in Adamawa State.

The incident occurred on Saturday, July 26, along the volatile Wukari-Benue border axis, a route notorious for criminal activity including kidnappings and armed robbery.
The abducted students identified as Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel, and Obiorah David were reportedly en route from Onitsha, Anambra State, after completing their mandatory court externship programme. The Yola campus is scheduled to resume academic activities on Monday, July 28.
Spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Yahaya Suleiman, confirmed the abduction but clarified that it occurred outside the jurisdiction of Adamawa State.
“The abduction did not happen within Adamawa borders. We’ve traced the location to an area near Benue,” Suleiman said, adding that inter-agency efforts are underway to secure the victims’ release. “We are in constant communication with the Benue State Police Command and other relevant security outfits. The safety of those travelling into or out of Adamawa is a top priority.”
In a disturbing new development, the kidnappers are reportedly demanding a ransom of ₦20 million per student for their release, raising urgent concerns among the legal community and families of the victims.
Authorities are yet to release additional information about the condition of the students or ongoing negotiations.
